five traps I see my clients fall into most often in this process.
1. Not Checking Accreditation
Not every
language school is accredited by the country's official education authority. A
certificate from a non-accredited school may not be accepted in some university
applications or visa processes. Always confirm a school's accreditation status
before enrolling.
2. Deciding on Price Alone
The cheapest
course often means the most crowded classes or the least experienced teachers.
Class size, teacher quality, and curriculum content matter just as much as
price — in fact, these are the real factors that directly affect how fast you
actually learn.
3. Leaving Accommodation Until the Last Minute
In some popular
cities, homestay or student housing spots fill up fast. Searching for
accommodation weeks after enrolling can leave you stuck with either an
over-budget option or somewhere far from the city centre.
4. Not Taking the Placement Test Seriously
Some students
prefer to be placed in a class above their actual level — reasoning 'if it's
harder, I'll learn faster.' But being in the wrong-level class can lead to lost
motivation and actually slow down real progress.
5. Learning the Visa/Duration Rules After Enrolling
Some clients
only realise after enrolling that the duration they chose actually requires a
visa — and that can mean reworking the entire plan. Clarifying the duration and
visa rules before enrolling prevents this kind of surprise entirely.
